Fences catch free-ranging lipids

چکیده
surface is crisscrossed with picket fences made of immobile transmembrane proteins. Until now, single-particle tracking (SPT) has been too slow to provide a high-resolution view of lipid diffusion. In an impressive technical achievement, the authors developed a SPT technique with 25s resolution, and then used it to follow the diffusion of a nonraft lipid in a cell membrane. The lipid molecule was Transmembrane proteins may block lipid movements.

Conservation Practice and Policy Beehive fences as a multidimensional conflict-mitigation tool for farmers coexisting with elephants
Increasing habitat fragmentation and human population growth in Africa has resulted in an escalation in human–elephant conflict between small-scale farmers and free-ranging African elephants (Loxodonta Africana). In 2012 Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) implemented the national 10-year Conservation and Management Strategy for the Elephant in Kenya, which includes an action aimed at testing whether ...

Total lipids, fatty acid composition and heavy metal content of Sardina pilchardus fillet samples captured in February 2014 in Beni saf, Mostaganem, Ghazaouet, Algiers and Jijet coast were evaluated. Total lipid content was related to the five sites of catch (p<0.05), ranging from 7.18 g 100g-1 for Algiers to 10.07g 100g-1 for Beni saf. The fatty acid composition of S. pilchardus shows a high c...
متن کاملRedistribution of glucose from skeletal muscle to adipose tissue during catch-up fat: a link between catch-up growth and later metabolic syndrome.
Catch-up growth, a risk factor for later obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases, is characterized by hyperinsulinemia and an accelerated rate for recovering fat mass, i.e., catch-up fat. To identify potential mechanisms in the link between hyperinsulinemia and catch-up fat during catch-up growth, we studied the in vivo action of insulin on glucose utilization in skeletal muscle a...
متن کاملPatches and fences: probing for plasma membrane domains.
Cell plasma membranes appear to be composed of domains, patches whose composition and function differ from the average for an entire membrane surface. Proteins and lipids may be segregated into domains by different mechanisms. Some of these mechanisms are discussed, followed by a summary of the evidence for membrane domains obtained in my laboratory. This evidence is largely based on measuremen...
